New Generation Women Poets and the Larkin Legacy
Rachael Allen, Rachel Long & Mary McCollum
On Saturday 5 December 2020, amid the Covid -19 pandemic, the Philip Larkin Society hosted a virtual event entitle ‘New Generation Women Poets and the Larkin Legacy’ to mark the 35th anniversary of Phillip Larkin’s death.
Three of the most exciting poets in the UK - all with acclaimed debut collections, all with links to Hull - read their work and considered whether the example of Larkin and his original heirs (Douglas Dunn, Sean O’Brien, Andrew Motion, et al) is of any help in the furtherance of their own poetic projects.
This small book records the rich and valuable discussion that took place here, interspersed with the poems that the poets chose to read.
